2024 Woodstacking Contest
The Pioneers' four-person judging panel included Patricia Meyers, Kara Johnson, John George, and Men's President Brad Austin. Women's President Dorene Lorenz hosted the judging at her Mendenhall Valley home, warming up the judges with her grandmother's homemade potato soup and fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies.
The judges traveled from Douglas Island to Sunshine Cover to view Juneau citizens' best efforts at preparing for the winter. They were suitably impressed.
Winners:
First Place received an oilcloth and leather POA Juneau wood tote. Eric and April Hotchkiss's multiple stacks for a total of 240 also won the Woodsy category for their creative and artistic stacks.
Bill Schattenberg took Second Place and received the classic tome, Norwegian Wood. Schattenberg's multiple stacks came in at 23 cords and also won the Baby Got Wood category for most wood quantity.
Diane Kyser won the Get That Wood award hands-down for the most accessible stack. Her home enviably displays 8.31 cords of well-stacked wood every few feet all the way around her house.
Brian Thatcher's 4.75 cords took home the Stacked category, winning with multiple meticulous round stacks.
