Telephone Hill Historic Neighborhood Advocacy

POA members have conducted a series of tours of the historic homes on Telephone Hill for elected Juneau officials and the State Historic Preservation Office staff.

These homes were the first built in the Juneau area, long before the city was laid out, and include the oldest continually occupied home in Alaska.

We were happy to discover that the residents of the Telephone Hill Historic Neighborhood have done an exceptional job of maintaining the homes.

The Pioneers of Alaska Juneau Igloo is determined to share the history of the first residents of these buildings, many of whom were founding members of the Igloo, and formally advocate for Telephone Hill’s preservation with testimony, letters, and resolutions as well as offering public lectures on the original owners.
