Wanting to be more community-facing and demonstrating that the Juneau POA is a family-friendly organization, we elected to participate in the Douglas 4th of July festivities by donating soap box derby cars that could be used as loaner cars for kids who weren’t fortunate enough to have a parent make them one.

Who knew that the Igloo men were so competitive - not only across the finish line but also for style points against each other. King Tom Dawson created a Sounds of Freedom indy racer and elected to donate new timing equipment for next year as his car lost first place by a fraction of a second. 
Past Grand President Fred Thorsteinson’s classic convertible unfortunately got wrecked before it picked up a trophy, but certainly was the sexiest car on the line.

President Brad Austin’s got the labor union apprentices involved in crafting the safest car, which also made impressive time in its runs.
President Dorene Lorenz took photos of each of the hundreds of kids who sprinted down St Ann’s Hill as the crossed the finish line and posted them on the Independence Day social media page so the parents could get a copy.
