Vrooman, Betty
Betty Vrooman was initiated in the POA Juneau Igloo on January 28, 1955, Roll Number 413.
She was born in Juneau, Alaska on 7 May 1923 to George Baggen and Olga Sandbery, both from Norway.
Betty married James R. Vrooman on April 19, 1943 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. They had two girls, Lynda and Jamie, both born in Annette where they lived at the CAA Station for two years. She also lived in Sitka seven years, Fairbanks two years, Gustavus two years, Yakutat two year, Anchorage two years. She worked as a housewife.
Her POA Membership Application suggests she was 5'2" 118 lbs, with medium complexion, blue-green eyes, light brown hair, and was in good health. She was endorsed by Joan M. Baggen and May Wright, and confirmed by Membership Committee Members Edna Anderson, Leona McKinnon and Odelia Light.
Her relatives included George Baggen, Junior of Sitka, L.C. Baggen of Juneau, and Elsie Johnson of Granite, New Mexico.
Betty died in Sitka on 11 February 1975.
Clark, Lorell Dee
Lorell Dee Bevan was a Charter Member of Juneau Igloo No. 6.
She was born on May 14, 1886 in Douglas, Kansas. She was the daughter of Thomas and Georgjina Trontla Bevan. Lorell spent her childhood on the family farm in Yale, Washington.
At the age of 16 she was working as a cook in a lumber mill. She married the mill manager Frank Edwin Clark on June 8, 1904 in Portland, Oregon. Their son William Z. Clark was born 1906 in Washington. The family moved to Alaska 1918 and had a fox farm on an island southeast of Juneau. Frank died on January 17 1926 in Kake.
Lorell and son William moved to Juneau where she met and became engaged to David M. Grant on November 17, 1927 in Juneau and they were married on November 28, 1928. They moved back to a farm in Southern Washington. David died in 1938.
Lorell moved to Kelso, Washington where she managed a hotel. She married Jack Yancy around 1940. The marriage was annulled around a year later.
During World War II, moved to Seatle to live with her son. She worked for Boeing as a rivieter on B-25 bombers . In 1950 she moved to Lebanon, Oregon to housekeeper for her brother Jessie. They moved to Arcata, California where Jessie died.
She then moved to Anchorage, Alaska to live with her son and his wife. When her son died, she moved to Seattle, Washington. Lorell died on April 17, 1970 in Seattle, Washington.

Pugh, Veneta Elizabeth
Venetia Ellizabeth Pugh was a Charter Member of Juneau Igloo Women's Auxilary Number 6.
She was born in the U.S. Customs House in Ketchikan on August 13, 1904 to John F. "Jack" and Venetia L. Pugh.
The family moved to Skagway in 1904 and to Juneau in 1909 where her father was assigned as the Collector of Customs for the District of Alaska. Her father was aboard the S.S. Princess Sophia when she ran aground and sank at Vanderbilt Reef near Juneau with no survivors.
After her father's death she and her mother moved into the Baranof Hotel. Her mother started a tea house and she worked there and at the Baranof Gift Shop.
She graduated from Juneau High School in 1922 and from the University of Washington in 1927 and began a 30-year career as clerk of the District Court.
She married Karl Austin Hahn on October 12, 1935 and they moved to Skagway. Their son Karl A. was born in Skagway, Alaska in July of 1939.
The Hahn family and Venetia's mother moved to Anchorage in 1947 and lived on Government Hill in a Quonset hut until 1953.
She retired from the Clerk of the Court Office in 1969. Karl and Venetia moved to the Anchorage Pioneer's Home in 1987. Venetia died at the Anchorage Pioneer's Home on January 11, 1999.
